Planned radiotherapy data collection
The National Prostate Cancer Audit commenced the prospective audit data collection for every newly diagnosed man with prostate cancer 1st April 2014.
The aim is to identify the processes and outcomes of care for all newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients in England and Wales and also to collect detailed information on case mix.
During the BUG conference in September 2014, the importance of collecting the planned radiotherapy information for the NPCA was highlighted, including:
* Collection of prostate cancer specific variables not routinely collected in the Radiotherapy dataset (RTDS) including hormone use.
* Accounting for evolution in prostate cancer treatment (e.g. SBRT and HDR).
* Case mix information essential to interpret outcomes.
Whilst data on patient and tumour characteristics is available at the time of MDT, the data items on radiotherapy may only be known at the time of booking the patient's treatment and can therefore not be completed by the MDT team.
To facilitate the collection of the radiotherapy data we suggest that the proforma available here for download is completed at the time of booking radiotherapy for all new prostate cancer patients due to receive external beam radiotherapy and/or brachytherapy. The completed form can then be forwarded to the MDT coordinator or cancer services team for input during each Trust’s routine, monthly data submission to the National Cancer Registration Service (NCRS).
Please contact your local NCRS Data Liaison representative should you have any queries related to the submission of planned radiotherapy data for the NPCA.
Many thanks for your support.
